Apple To Launch AI-Powered Wall-Mounted Smart Display In March 2025 [Report]

Apple is reportedly planning to launch an AI-powered smart home display as early as March 2025, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The display will be approximately six inches in size and has a square shape, unlike an iPad, which is rectangular.

It features thick bezels around the edges. At the top front of the display, there’s a camera that can be used for FaceTime, while internal speakers allow for music playback, and a built-in rechargeable battery provides power.

Apple will make the aforementioned new hub available in silver and black, featuring a touch-based interface. The operating system will blend elements of the iPhone’s StandBy mode and watchOS, with voice control taking center stage. Apple aims to integrate Apple Intelligence for accessing apps and controlling smart home devices.

The screen device, which runs a new operating system code-named Pebble, will include sensors to determine how close a person is. It will then automatically adjust its features depending on the distance. For example, if users are several feet away, it might show the temperature. As they approach, the interface can switch to a panel for adjusting the home thermostat.

The newly designed operating system will also include a customizable home screen where users can run widgets for checking stock tickers, the weather and appointments. Or they can configure the screen to highlight key home controls. There will also be a dock for quickly launching favorite apps and an iPhone-like home screen grid of software icons.

Apple intends to position the smart display as a “command center,” aiming to further solidify its position in the smart home market.

Apple also plans to release a robotic version of this smart home hub in the future. This robotic version will be able to move the screen around.
