Following on from an email sent to employees yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook held an intimate Town Hall session with various company employees to discuss the recent record breaking quarterly results, and a number of other exciting goings on at Apple.
The record quarterly results posted by Apple this week will no doubt has everyone at the company in good spirits, but when coupled together with the announcements made during the January 19th New York education event, it would seem that 2012 is shaping up to be a great year for all involved with Apple. The education initiative announced by the company, which saw the launch of iBooks 2, iBooks Author and the dedicated iTunes U application, has shown once again that Apple are prepared to lead the way in innovation as they strive to improve the world’s education standards.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Town Hall meeting, was the fact that Tim Cook had told everyone to report to the venue either in person, or through the company AppleWeb online portal to make sure they don’t miss out on the important and exciting announcements which will reveal what is going on at Apple. It is well known, that Cook’s predecessor, Steve Jobs, used to hold very similar meetings with staff shortly after product launches.
Other than the obvious congratulations and self back patting for the financial results, what was discussed during this internal company meeting? Tim Cook announced a new employee discount program which offers employees the chance to receive a discount of $500 on new Macs and $250 off the purchase of new iPads. Pick up your jaw and carry on reading, as the internal staff benefit is actually as good as it sounds. Certain criteria need to be met by employees, including a requirement that the staff member has been employed by the company for more than ninety days and the promotion is only used once every in a thirty six month period.
Information about the full terms and conditions is limited, but it would appear that the discount scheme is being made available to both corporate and employees of Apple’s retail operations around the country. The current practice allows employees to received a one-off 25% discount and products, which can be used once annually, and there is actually some murmurings which suggest that this discount will remain in place and run alongside the new promotion.
This isn’t the first time that Apple has provided employees with a very lucrative and enticing staff purchase option. Shortly after the launch of the original iPhone in 2007, the late Steve Jobs announced an offer which would effectively give every employee an 8GB version of the new device. This newest promotion is set to begin in June 2012, when we expect to see a few more details released about the exact usage requirements.
