We’re hearing plenty of claims about what we can expect to see when WWDC kicks into gear in June, and while macOS has been the focus of many of the rumours, 9to5Mac has now reported on iOS 13 with improved Siri support believed to be on the horizon.
According to the report, WWDC 2019 will include new developer features that will allow apps to more tightly integrate with Siri. Those integrations may include things like voice calling, search, media playback, and even transportation links such as flights, trains, and airport data.
All of this is part of what looks set to be a big round of releases when iOS 13 and macOS 10.15 land later this year. Initial betas are likely to arrive in June, and they are shaping up to be a big deal. Frameworks that build on the existing Marzipan project are set to make the moving of iOS apps to the Mac even easier, with support for Mac features like the Touch Bar and multiple windows included. Apple’s ARKit platform is set to receive some solid new capabilities as well, with the ability to detect human poses on the horizon as well as a companion app that will allow developers to create AR experiences visually.
The cross-pollination of Mac and iOS looks set to continue in many ways, with file provider extensions coming to the former in a way similar to the latter. That will allow tighter integration between Finder and services like Dropbox and other cloud storage providers, too.
Back on iOS, new developer tools to allow improved interaction with the Taptic Engine and external storage devices are on the horizon, the latter of which will be a big deal for those of us using iPad Pro devices as our daily drivers.
All of this will come out on the wash when WWDC takes place this coming June, and we can’t wait to see what Apple has been working on.
