Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers have been given a new tool that will help them figure out why some iPhones continue to restart unexpectedly, according to a new report.
The tool, which is said to work on iPhone 11 devices or newer, is designed to identify why a device has restarted unexpectedly. It’ll also interrogate the iPhone’s logs to see how many times a device restarted over a period of 14 days.
If the diagnostic determines unexpected restarts have taken place, Apple advises technicians to proceed with a hardware repair, according to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors. If the diagnostic passes, Apple advises technicians to direct the customer to a new support document with hardware and software troubleshooting tips.
It’s said that the tool will give technicians a new and improved way to identify why a device is restarting, whereas they might normally have had to manually search through analytics logs or restore a device to try and fix the issue.
By giving technicians a more advanced tool it is likely that they will be able to identify any issues more easily, potentially meaning a quicker turnaround time for those whose iPhones are in need of repair.
MacRumors says that the new System Stability diagnostic tool is part of the larger Apple Service Toolkit 2
