Apple has shared the percentage of people who have installed ioS 16 and iPadOS 16 for the first time since they were released to the public in September 2022.
Apple often shares these numbers following the release of a major new update, but it’s been slow to do so this time around.
In terms of the numbers in terms of iPhones that have been released in the last four years, Apple says that 81% of devices now have iOS 16 installed. That number falls to 72% when all iPhones are taken into account.
For the iPad and iPadOS 16, just 53% of iPads introduced in the last four years have been updated to the latest software. That number falls to 50% when all iPads are taken into account.
The numbers are impressive in terms of the iPhone, although it’s important to remember that Apple announced the iOS 15 numbers a month earlier last year. 9to5Mac notes:
With that in mind, iOS 15 was installed on 72% of all iOS devices introduced in the last four years when Apple revealed the data for the first time last year. This means that iOS 16 adoption is outpacing iOS 15 adoption.
Things are less positive on the iPad, however. The iPadOS 16 update is behind the iPadOS 15 one by around 7 percentage points. However, note that iPadOS 16 was released a month later than iPadOS 15 so those numbers might change.
