Even during a global virus-based pandemic, Cupertino-based Apple Inc. is still capable of stirring up a storm for its product announcement events. This year’s WWDC took an entirely different format but was still as popular as ever.
In a few hours from now, Apple will once again have the eyes of the world watching for its digital-only September 15 event. And our eyes will be firmly affixed on all of the action.
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works in the sense that everything is a little up in the air. Historically, we’d expect an Apple event that introduced a brand new iPhone, that covered a few other product announcements, and that resulted in a guaranteed pre-order date for new Apple hardware. What we are actually getting tomorrow is a digital-only even that will likely feature no iPhone announcement whatsoever. Let’s all adjust to this new “normal.”
With that said, the event should still yield some important announcements. Apple Watch lovers should get the first official glimpse of Apple Watch Series 6 that will feature performance and battery life improvements as well as faster Wi-Fi and cellular speeds. Speculation suggests that there will no be real outward-facing design changes but that the biggest improvement will come with blood oxygen monitoring capabilities. Apple could also announce a next-generation iPad Air tablet that features a Touch ID experience baked into the display of the device or one the side of the hardware. This would make it Apple’s first Touch ID-based product that doesn’t have the sensor in the Home button.
If none of that piques your interest, then how about the possibility of a pair of high-end over-ear headphones that could be called AirPods Studio? The AirPods Studio will likely join the AirPods range alongside the AirPods and AirPods Pro and will likely be available to purchase before the end of 2020. And, amongst all of that will we see the introduction of Apple’s rumored Apple One subscription bundle? Tune in to find out.
As you have come to expect, we will be on hand to cover everything from tomorrow’s event to ensure that you don’t miss a thing if you can’t tune in. As always we will be offering an opinion on everything that is announced during the gathering and bringing you immediate reaction to every major announcement made by Apple and its collective team.
