Apple Sends Out Invites For March 27 Spring Event “Let’s Take A Field Trip”

With all of the attention on WWDC 2018 this June and the possibility of new hardware being announced, Apple has just outmanoeuvred us all by sending out invitations for a new media event.

Set to focus on education, the event will take place at a Chicago school on Tuesday, March 27 with the event kicking off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Details on the event are scarce, but given the location of it and the “Let’s take a field trip” text on the invitation, a focus on education is a given. Apple says that we can expect to “hear creative new ideas for teachers and students” during the event, although it is of course unclear what this may mean.

One school of thought (pun not intended, honestly) is that we will see new iPad Pro devices with Apple Pencil changes also rolled in. Rumors of exactly that have been circulating for a little while now, and given the hand drawn and written nature of the invitation it does not need too big of a leap to suspect Apple Pencil will feature heavily in whatever will be announced.

New entry-level MacBooks as well as refreshed MacBook Air notebooks have also been rumored of late, both of which could fit into an education-based event. Finally, also expected is final version of iOS 11.3 release, and AirPower, AirPods wireless charger launch at the event. The location is still an interesting one however, not only is this taking place at a school, but one in Chicago, not San Francisco.

The good news is we don’t have too long to wait before we get to the bottom of what is going on. Whether we see new tablets or notebooks, we think this makes much more sense than an announcement during WWDC in June, an event not traditionally known for hardware announcements. Roll on March 27th!
