Just when we’d all pretty much come to terms with Apple not announcing a new iPhone at WWDC, British technology blog ElectricPig has gone and got us wondering once more, with reports Apple’s PR department are trying to get UK press to attend the event in San Francisco.
The general consensus amongst the tech world is that Apple will not be announcing an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 (or any other name) until later this year, with perhaps an iOS announcement coming at WWDC which runs from 6th to 10th of June.
But according to ElectricPig, Apple’s UK PR department has been trying to round up UK-based journalists in an attempt to convince them to attend the company’s little shindig.
A source tells us that Apple’s UK iPhone PR team is approaching journalists from major publications to fly out to the event in San Francisco next month. The obvious conclusion would be that Apple is announcing a new iPhone. Or rather, an updated model. The iPhone 4S is slated as a stop-gap before the appearance of a true, ‘&%!*, they’ve done it again!’ game-changer next year.
So what are they up to? Are we actually going to see some new iPhone hardware in the next couple of weeks? Reports of both a revolutionary new iPhone 5 and an evolutionary iPhone 4S have been circulating recently, although both rumors stick to the ‘late 2011’ release timeframe.
While we’d love to be wrong, we’re still of the opinion Apple will keep its new hardware close to its chest for now with WWDC being the place we get to see some shiny new features make their way to the iPhone’s software, iOS.
Anyway, this UK-based writer hasn’t heard anything from Apple PR, so they can’t be that serious can they?
