One of the lesser known additions to iOS 16,2 and macOS Ventura 13.2 was the ability to upgrade to a new and improved Home app architecture.
Apple didn’t go into too many details as to what that actually meant, though, and simply said that the updated architecture meant for “improved performance and reliability”.
However, it’s now been reported that the option to upgrade has been removed entirely.
According to MacRumors, people who haven’t already updated to the new Home architecture no longer have the option to do so. Those who already upgraded are stuck, however, with no way to downgrade.
Why Apple has taken the step of rolling back the option to upgrade the Home app architecture isn’t confirmed by the company as yet, but it’s been suggested that the number of issues users have experienced may have some part to play.
Some early adopters report issues with HomeKit devices constantly stuck in an “updating” or “configuring” state, while others say that HomeKit Secure Video recording hasn’t worked properly since upgrading.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will confirm why it has taken this step or if there will be a fix coming for those who already upgraded. But for now it looks like those who are suffering from issues are stuck, with Apple now unlikely to fix anything until after the new year.
