Apple Reportedly Testing Nine New Macs With Multiple M2 Chips

Apple is reportedly testing as many as nine new Macs internally with as many as four different M2 chips involved. A new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that the machines are already being tested to the point of appearing in developer logs.

If the report is correct it appears that Apple is already testing an M2, M2 Pro, M2 Max, and M2 Ultra chip across multiple devices. However, hard timeframes for when any of those devices will be announced are unclear.

If Bloomberg is correct, Apple is now testing:

An M2-powered MacBook Air that will have eight CPU cores and 10 GPU cores.
A Mac mini with the same M2 chip with another machine carrying the M2 Pro variant.
A new mid-range MacBook Pro with an M2 chip, likely to be the 13-inch replacement.
An updated 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The M2 Max is expected to have 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores.
A refreshed 16-inch MacBook Pro with the same M2 Pro and M2 Max chips as the 14-inch version.
A new Mac Pro with an M2 Ultra chip inside, replacing the M1 Ultra.
An updated Mac mini with an M2 Pro that is similar to the chip used in the MacBook Pro refreshes.

It’s possible that we will see the MacBook Air updated within the next few months depending on who you listen to, while that new Mac Pro is the machine that many are excited to see the arrival of. It’s the last Mac to make the switch from Intel chips to Apple silicon.
