The Apple Vision Pro has been on sale in the United States since February and is set to go on sale in new countries within weeks, but a new report claims that plans to produce an upgraded second-gen model have been put on hold already.
Apple was thought to be working on an upgraded version of the Apple Vision Pro for a release further down the line but those plans have now been paused amid ongoing reports of slow sales for the $3,499 headset.
However, with the price thought to be a key issue for some buyers, The Information reports that the shelving of plans for a second-gen model hasn’t affected Apple’s plans to launch a new, cheaper version.
The report suggests that Apple still intends to launch a cut-down version of the Apple Vision Pro before the end of next year with the company thought to be aiming for a price point of around $1,500. That would be less than half that of the current model, suggesting that the company will remove some key features in order to hit that price point.
It’s as-yet unclear how Apple intends to take a $3,499 device and reduce its production costs far enough to sell it for just $1,500, but we can expect some big changes. With a late-2025 launch thought to be in the cards we’ll have to wait a year or so before we can find out just which corners Apple intends to cut.
