Apple’s MagSafe Charger is now available to buy and has been since the introduction of the iPhone 12. It’s available in any color you want so long as that color happens to be silver — but it might not always have been that way.
A new report claims that Apple had intended to ship the MagSafe Charger in a number of different colors, similar to the colored MagSafe charging cables that come with the current MacBook Air.
That’s according to Twitter account @KosutamiSan. The Apple prototype collector says that they have information that suggest colored MagSafe Chargers were in the cards, possibly including Space Gray, Midnight, and Starlight to go alongside the current Silver offering.
The same Twitter account also suggested that Apple was working on colored versions of an unreleased MagSafe charging stand.
That stand would have allowed iPhones to be charged in a vertical but landscape position, possibly to allow for media consumption while still charging. The stand ultimately didn’t ship, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t in the future.
Apple’s said to be ready to add Qi2 compatibility to future iPhones, with the standard based on Apple’s own MagSafe wireless charging offering.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 lineup in or around September, with the updated Apple Watch lineup likely to be announced at the same time.
