Apple has long been rumored to be making the switch to mini-LED for a number of its products and now DigiTimes has reported on a number of the companies that Apple will be using in order to make that happen.
According to the report, Apple will get a mini-LED iPad Pro and mini-LED MacBook Pro out the door in the first half of next year, with a number of companies getting ready ahead of orders.
Apple’s suppliers in Taiwan, including LED chip vendor Epistar, testing and sorting specialist FitTech, SMT service provider Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology, backlight board supplier Zhen Ding Technology, cooling solution provider Auras Technology and process equipment maker All Ring Technology, are all ready to gain growth momentum from upcoming shipments for Apple’s miniLED-backlit devices, the sources said.
The sources continued that Foxconn Technology and Compal Electronics will share the assembly orders for miniLED iPad Pro devices, and MacBook Pro products adopting M1 chipsets will be mainly produced by Quanta Computer and partly by Foxconn
The same report says that TSMC will be the company providing the 5nm chips for both the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, confirming that the former will run Apple silicon rather than Intel. It isn’t clear whether the M1 chip will be used or if this will be something new, however.
We’ve been hearing rumors of mini-LED Apple devices for months with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo having previously said that the first half of next year was likely to see an iPad Pro of some sort.
