Just a few days after they went on sale Apple has released watchOS 10.0.2 for the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 9 wearables specifically. The two models are the only ones that can install this latest update.
That means that older Apple Watches can only install up to watchOS 10.0.1, and we’d always suggest that people update to the latest version of watchOS.
This also mimics a situation that saw the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro ship with new iOS 17.0.2 updates waiting for them. Those updates were also unavailable for older models.
In terms of what’s new in watchOS 10.0.2, Apple says that it includes bug fixes and security updates which means that you shouldn’t expect any new features this time around. The update is available as a free download for your new Apple Watch and that can be done via the Watch app on your iPhone. As always, you will also need to ensure that your Apple Watch has at least 50% battery remaining and is on charge for the update process to complete.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 9 went on sale on September 22 alongside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro.
Some owners have noted that they cannot get the Weather app’s complications to properly work on the new models, and it appears that this watchOS 10.0.2 update does not address that issue. We’ll need another update to fix that, it seems.
