Apple has today released new iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 betas to developers as it continues to get the updates ready to be released to the public.
The new updates are both available for download by developers who have the correct profiles installed on their iPhones and iPads, with the new releases also set to be made available in IPSW form, too.
The iOS 16.1 update, once available to all, will add support for Live Activities, a new type of interactive notification that will allow developers to display real-time information rather than sending multiple push notifications. The feature will also make use of the Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro models, too.
Other additions to iOS 16.1 include bringing the battery percentage to more iPhones as well as a new Clean Energy Charging feature that will charge iPhones overnight and when cleaner energy is being used.
As for iPadOS 16.1, that’s a big update that replaces the iPadOS 16 release that never saw the light of day. That was because the new Stage Manager multitasking feature wasn’t thought to be stable enough, and Apple will release iOS 16.1 when it’s ready. Recent reports have that happening as soon as the week beginning October 24.
The iPadOS 16.1 update will also include support for editing and unsending iMessages and more.
Those who are part of the public beta program can expect to see these updates become available over the next day or two, assuming no showstopping bugs are discovered.
