Just as it had previously promised, Apple had now confirmed that Apple Pay has officially gone live in Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and United Arab Emirates.
Users will need to have access to a supported bank and card in order to take advantage of Apple Pay, but assuming they tick those boxes, they will be able to pay for items via contactless methods using iPhones and Apple Watches. Support via the Mac and iPad is also available for purchases from websites which offer Apple Pay as a payment method, and even from native apps in iPad’s case.
When it comes to supported banks, there are plenty to choose from in Denmark. Jyske Bank (if you have one if its Visa debit cards) and Nordea are supporting Apple Pay out of the gate. In Finland and Sweden, Apple Pay is supported by debit and credit cards from Nordea and ST1. Those who are customers of Edenred and N26 can look forward to support for their cards soon, while Ticket Rikskuponger will support Apple Pay in Sweden in due course.
Moving on to United Arab Emirates, the lay of the land is much more solid, with support looking a little something like this: Emirates Islamic (Visa credit, debit, and prepaid cards,) Emirates NBD, HSBC (Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards,) Mashreq, RAKBANK (Mastercard credit, debit, and prepaid cards), and Standard Chartered Bank are all online as of day one.
The new additions now mean that Apple Pay is available in 20 countries including: United States, United Kingdom, Japan via FeliCa, New Zealand, China, Canada, Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Italy, and Ireland, with the Netherlands, Poland, Norway, and Germany also expected to come online in the future if rumors are to be believed.
Those wishing to take advantage of Apple Pay can do so on any iPhone newer than an iPhone 6/iPhone SE, all Apple Watch Series models, and any iPad newer than the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. All iPad Pro models also support the payment method, as well as almost all Macs capable of running latest macOS version.
