Apple Music Set For A Major Overhaul, Will Be Unveiled At WWDC 2016

Apple’s streaming music service is coming up to its first birthday, and it looks as though it’s going to celebrate by benefiting from a visual and experience overhaul. It is being reported that Apple’s designers and engineers are planning on introducing a new rebooted version of Apple Music prior to this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2016) in June in order to make it “more easier to use”.

The service has managed to capture the interest of millions of users around the globe over the last twelve months, with most of them extremely happy with the streaming platform. However, there has been some criticism thrown Apple’s way claiming that Apple Music can sometimes be confusing and hard to interact with. The news of an impending change appears to be a direct reaction to that feedback. The anonymous sources cited in the report are claiming that Apple will undergo a process to entirely redesign the user-interface to make it more intuitive and friendly to subscribers.

It seems that the overhaul will flow nicely into this year’s WWDC, and won’t stop at just a new redesigned interface for users to interact with. In addition to the new UI, Apple is also said to be pulling together a dedicated marketing campaign that will not only attempt to entice more users into the $10 per-month subscription model, but that will also hopefully expand the profile of the service and push its Beats 1 radio service out to more listeners on a global scale. It’s likely that the update will also attempt to revamp the Connect feature baked into Apple Music, which artists have reportedly said “fails miserably” in its execution.

Apple Music was launched back in June 2015, and can generally be considered a success to date. CEO Tim Cook announced during last week’s earnings call that the streaming music service had reached a total of 13 million paying subscribers, generating revenue of approximately $130 million on a monthly basis for Apple. Apple had previously released subscription statistics back in January, with the latest figures showing a growth rate on par with industry leader Spotify.

Apple Music may not have caught up with the likes of Spotify just yet, but if the company nails this usability update, and continues to embed exclusive content and releases, we can’t see a reason why the service won’t continue to grow at an impressive rate.
