Apple is finally tackling the frustrations users have had with its Magic Mouse for years.
According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple is working on a fully redesigned version to make it more modern and fix long-standing issues.
One of the most notorious complaints is the charging design. The current Magic Mouse has to be flipped upside down to plug in, which means you can’t use it while it’s charging and is a strange design choice for such a premium product. Add to that its low-profile shape, which many users find uncomfortable for extended use, and it’s clear why the Magic Mouse has faced criticism.
Gurman says Apple is aiming to create a version that’s more relevant to today’s needs while addressing these usability and ergonomic flaws. While exact details of the redesign are still under wraps, it’s expected to focus on improving comfort and functionality, making it a better fit for long-term use.
The timeline for this upgrade isn’t immediate, though. Apple recently gave the Magic Mouse a minor refresh with a USB-C port, so this bigger redesign is still 12 to 18 months away. That means we can likely expect the new Magic Mouse to debut sometime in 2026.
Interestingly, this updated Magic Mouse could roll out around the same time as Apple’s rumored OLED MacBook Pro which is expected in 2026. With all these updates on the horizon, it looks like Apple is planning a big refresh across its product lineup.
