It’s been a big day for Apple’s MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines with price drops and refreshes. But there’s also been one change that could make a huge difference if you upgrade the built-in SSD.
Now the high-end storage options are notably cheaper, with some prices cut in half. And these price cuts run across the entire Mac lineup; iMac, iMac Pro, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, too.
These savings can be seen at the larger capacity levels. As an example the 4TB SSD option for the 15-inch MacBook Pro previously cost $2800 but now that’s been slashed by 50%, reducing it to just $1400. That’s a massive price cut
Storage has been one big area where Apple has been charging exorbitant amounts of money compared to other manufacturers and third-party suppliers. This price drop makes things much more palatable, and anyone wanting to buy a new machine today will be able to configure more storage at their previous price points.
As part of the juggling of storage options Apple has also removed the 1.5TB option from the MacBook Air lineup. Now those storage options top out at a new 1TB upgrade that costs $400.
These price reductions will be very welcome for anyone looking to pick up a new Mac today. They also potentially mean that the higher end storage choices for the upcoming Mac Pro won’t be quite as eye watering as we first feared.
