AirTags is a name that feels like it’s been around forever, but so far there’s no actual product to go with it. We pretty much know that AirTags will be Tile-like item trackers, and we first started seeing references way back in iOS 13. But now we’ve seen it somewhere else – on Apple’s own website.
To be more specific, it was part of a video that was posted to YouTube. It was supposed to be a simple support video but nobody seems to have noticed that the device shown on-screen mentions AirTags.
Just beneath a toggle for “Enable Offline Finding” we see something new. And sure enough, AirTags gets a name check.
Offline finding enables this device and AirTags to be found when not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular.
The video has since been removed from YouTube, presumably by someone with a very red face.
At this point Apple may as well just announce AirTags. They’ve leaked beyond belief in recent months and there’s no doubt that the trackers will be a future product. It’s just a matter of when Apple announces them.
The little tile-like trackers will allow people to keep tabs on anything from purses to keys and wallets. We don’t know how much they will cost or exactly how they work, but we’ve seen screenshots of their integration into the Find My app already. Now we just need to be able to buy them.
