Apple’s burgeoning headphone lineup has grown again, this time gaining a new wireless addition in the form of Beats Studio3 headphones.
The new offering includes the W1 chip that debuted inside Apple’s AirPods and other Beats headphones and allows owners of iPhones, iPods, Apple Watches and Macs to seamlessly pair the headphones while also allowing information such as battery life to be transmitted over the air.
With up to 40 hours of battery life in normal use and around 22 hours with their noise cancelling feature activated, the Studio3 headphones’ main claim to fame is certainly their ability to take ambient noise and factor it in when producing the audio the user hears. Apple claims that the new ‘Pure Adaptive Noise Cancelling’ (Pure ANC) feature in Studio3 relies on two integrated microphones to detect ambient sound and compares the waveforms to the sound file of the music. This allows specific components within the audio to be tuned just so, preventing external sources of sound from getting in the way of the user’s listening.
With Apple continuing its move away from wired headphones and towards an all-wireless future, there is no wired-only option available, which makes sense given the removal of the headphone jack from Apple’s flagship iPhones. There is however a jack on the headphones should the need for a wired option crop up, but if you don’t want the Bluetooth option in the first place then you are unfortunately out of luck.
Whether you use it or not, that W1 chip-powered wireless Bluetooth connectivity is probably part of the reason for the $350 price tag that will be slapped on the Studio3 headphones when they start shipping in October. For that money, buyers will get the headphones, a carrying case and a micro-USB charging cable while also being able to choose from red, matte black, white, rose, blue and shadow gray color options.
Beats Studio3 can be ordered from Apple today, but as mentioned earlier, they won’t start shipping until October of this year.
