Apple Is Temporarily Closing Some Of Its US Stores During Looting And Protesting

Apple has taken the decision to close some of its stores across the United States after a number of nights saw riots and protesting result in stores being damaged and ransacked.

People across the United States are protesting the death of George Floyd during a police arrest in Minneapolis last week.

As often happens however, some people have taken the opportunity to loot retail outlets during protests and Apple has decided that it should close – and often board up – stores to keep them safe. The same goes for its team members, too.

With the health and safety of our teams in mind, we’ve made the decision to keep a number of our stores in the US closed on Sunday.

These stores have only just reopened after a period of closure due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But Apple has taken the decision int he interest of safety and, presumably, to try and limit the damage and theft that would occur if its stores were targeted. Apple Stores are often seen as soft touches for looters thanks to the ease with which products can be removed.

However, it’s important to note that Macs, iPhones, and iPads are useless once they have been removed from an Apple Store in this manner – something that people don’t seem to realize when making away with thousands of dollars in product.

Apple Stores in Portland, Brooklyn. Salt Lake City, LA, and more have so far been damaged or looted. Apple hasn’t yet said when stores will reopen.
