Apple Is Reportedly Exploring A Foldable MacBook But A Foldable iPhone Isn’t Coming Until 2025 At The Earliest

Talk of Apple announcing some sort of foldable iPhone just won’t go away but the latest rumor is one that we were all hoping we wouldn’t see.

According to a new report, Apple won’t have its foldable iPhone ready until 2025 at the earliest. But on the flip side, it might also be working on some sort of foldable Mac as well.

According to a report by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst, Ross Young, Apple is now unlikely to be ready to shop its foldable iPhone until 2025 at the very earliest. This after the same analyst previously claimed that 2023 could be the big year.

We delayed our expectations for Apple entering the foldable smartphone market by two years to 2025 after discussions with our supply chain contacts. The company does not appear to be in a hurry to enter the foldable smartphone market, and it may even take longer than that.

As disappointing as that is, it shouldn’t be all that much of a surprise. Apple tends to err on the side of making sure its products are ready rather than being first – and it’s already very far from being first, so why not wait to get things right?

There might be a silver lining to go with this cloud, however. The same report goes on to say that there is now the chance that Apple could launch some sort of foldable MacBook that would open up to do double duty as a larger, desk-based display.

On the other hand, we are now showing Apple in our roadmap for foldable notebooks. We hear there is interest at the largest size yet, around 20.x”. This size could create a new category for Apple and would result in a true dual use product, a notebook with a full-size keyboard when folded and for use as a monitor when not folded and used with an external keyboard. It may also allow for UHD/4K resolution or even higher at that size. The time frame is likely later than 2025 though, it could be 2026 or 2027.

Such a machine would be a huge leap forward and while it isn’t clear what form such a product would truly take, it’s something that would indeed represent a whole new product category for Apple.
