Apple could be getting ready to ship its first foldable tablet as soon as next year.
That’s according to a new report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who says that 2024 is the year that Apple will finally launch a foldable device.
Writing in a series of posts to Twitter Kuo said that he is “positive” that Apple will launch the foldable iPad in 2024, adding that we might not see many if any new new iPads between now and then.
Kuo believes that the foldable iPad will have a carbon fiber kickstand that will not only be strong but also light, reducing the amount of weight that will be added to the overall package. It also means that the tablet will not need a separate stand and will instead have its own built-in solution for watching content on the go.
While it isn’t clear how big the foldable iPad will be, previous reports had pointed to a 20-inch screen size. However, those reports had also claimed that Apple wouldn’t be ready to ship the foldable tablet until 2026 at the earliest. That could suggest that this is a different product entirely, or that someone has their dates wrong.
Kuo also says that Apple now isn’t expected to refresh its popular iPad mini product until next year, with mass production beginning in the first quarter of the year.
