Apple Is Officially Returning To CES In 2020 For The First Time In Nearly 3 Decades

Apple hasn’t attended CES for a long, long time. In fact, the last time it did was way back in 1992, before some people reading this were even born. And contrary to some reports it isn’t returning to CES next year, either, but it is going to have an employee speaking at a security roundtable.

The company’s Senior Director of Privacy, Jane Horvath will be speaking on a “Chief Privacy Officer Roundtable” on January 7 according to the agenda that CES has published. They’ll be joined by people from other companies such as Facebook while the FTC will also have someone in attendance.

This, however, doesn’t mean that Apple is at CES in 2020. There will be no presentations, no devices, and no booths.

Apple doesn’t do events like CES anymore, no matter how much we sometimes wish it did. In fact, the closest thing Apple has done to attending CES in recent years is the round of billboard ads it took out last year.

Ads around Las Vegas proclaimed that “What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone.” Apple often boasts the most secure phones around, thanks in part to its lack of interest in collecting user data.

Next year’s CES will will surely be like all others, including a plethora of announcements and products that either never make it to market or have their ambitious designs scaled back in order to meet deadlines or price points. But no, Apple won’t be there to see it.
