Apple is reportedly finally ready to bring the Apple TV app to Android phones, but it won’t be ready for some time yet after Apple started to advertise for an Android developer.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has published a new job listing that says that the company is looking for someone to lead the development of new features while also building an app that will be used by millions to watch TV and sports.
The move suggests that the company is looking to gain market share in video streaming — and is setting aside its rivalry with Android in order to chase additional users. It’s rare for Apple to develop software for Google’s Android, which competes with its iOS platform.
The Apple TV app is available on a whole host of platforms, not just Apple’s.
The app can be found on streaming devices, smart televisions, game consoles, and more but so far there has been no sign of an Apple TV app for Android. That now seems set to change.
The arrival of an Apple TV app on Android would not only allow people to watch Apple TV+ on Android but also content bought and rented via the iTunes platform, too. There’s no telling when the app will be ready, however.
