Apple is reportedly adding a number of its iMacs to its list of obsolete products later this month, with models from 2013 and 2014 set for the chop.
Products are added to the obsolete list when they are no longer supported for service or repair by Apple or its authorized repair partners. That means that if anything were to go wrong, you’d, unfortunately, be left to deal with the issue on your own.
According to a MacRumors report, which cites an internal memo the outlet has seen, there will be a few iMacs added to the list on November 30.
In the memo, Apple said the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac from Late 2013, the Mid 2014 21.5-inch iMac, and the Retina 5K 27-inch iMac from late 2014 will be marked as obsolete on November 30, 2022.
If you own an iMac that is on that list now might be a good time to consider upgrading to something a little newer. If you’re using a 21.5-inch iMac then the newer M1-powered 24-inch model will be a huge upgrade for you in both performance and screen. If you’re using the 5K iMac, however, you might need to consider going Mac mini or Mac Studio and then buying a Studio Display to go with it.
Apple continues to be rumored to be working on an updated 27-inch iMac, but it isn’t clear whether that could ultimately be a new iMac Pro or not.
