If you’ve picked up an iPhone 14 Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, you’re probably already dealing with a big hole in your wallet.
So the idea of dropping either of these things onto something hard isn’t our idea of fun. But what would happen if you did?
That’s something that YouTuber PhoneBuff sets out to answer, dropping both phones from a great height to see what would happen. The phones were dropped from the same height on each test, but they were dropped differently each time. One drop was on the phones’ back, one was on a corner, and the other was face down. The results? You’re probably going to want to put these expensive phones in some sort of case.
That isn’t to say that the phones exploded upon impact. Both phones survived some falls surprisingly well, while other falls were not so forgiving.
Dropping your phone on its front or back is generally going to make a real mess of that thing, so screen protectors are never a bad idea. If you’re worried about that back glass, a new case is in order. Because even though the Galaxy S23 Ultra has Corning’s best-ever glass on the back, it still isn’t going to hold up well if you drop it on something hard like concrete.
You can of course check out the full PhoneBuff video to get a look at how things went down, but just make sure you don’t let your phone see what’s happening.
