Apple Intelligence Storage Requirement: Here’s What You Need To Know

Apple Intelligence storage requirement has been revealed. Here’s what you need to know if you’re buying a new iPhone for Apple Intelligence usage in future.

When Apple starts to release new Apple Intelligence features starting with the launch of iOS 18.1 next month, those who enable the much-vaunted technology will notice that they require additional storage space to make it work. What’s more, the amount of storage needed will grow, too.

Apple has published a new support document that details the requirements as part of the latest iOS 18.1 software beta, noting that all supported devices will require at least 4GB of free storage for the Apple Intelligence features to function.

Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later. iPhone devices need 4GB of storage.

There will of course be additional storage requirements to consider for the installation of iOS 18.1 itself, too.

It’s also important to remember that Apple says that the “Storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out.” That means that the 4GB figure could well grow over time, although it’s impossible to know at the moment just how much storage could be required in the long run as new Apple Intelligence features are added.

Apple isn’t expected to release iOS 18.1 until October, but not all Apple Intelligence features will be available with that update. Some will arrive with later versions of iOS shipping towards the end of 2024 and into early 2025.
