Apple has added Live Activity support to the Shazam iPhone for the first time with version 17.11 now available for download.
Shazam is Apple’s song identification app that can be downloaded from the App Store and then launched via either the Home screen or Control Center.
It’s designed to make it easier for people to be able to identify unknown songs, whether that’s in a bar or inside an app on their iPhone.
Apple’s Live Activity support is expected to make it easier for people to see how their song identification is going even when they are not in the Shazam app anymore. This could be most useful when trying to identify a song that is playing in another app, for example.
Apple bought Shazam back in 2018 and has been steadily adding new features ever since. It’s closely integrated with Apple Music, as you would expect, and can even identify songs when someone is listening via a pair of headphones as well. Siri is supported while there is also Shazam support on the iPad and Mac, too.
Apple has allowed developers to use their own Live Activities since the release of iOS 16.1 towards the end of 2022 and it’s a feature that has proven popular ever since. It’s particularly useful when staying updated on things that are in progress without having to stay in the associated app.
