When Apple releases the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices next month it’s expected that the USB-C port on at least some of the new iPhones will support high-speed data transfer. Now, it sounds like people might have to buy a special cable if they want to make full use of it.
That’s according to X leaker Kosutami who has shared details about a sample USB-C cable that they’ve apparently had since February.
That cable is rated for 150W and USB 4 Gen 2 data transfer speeds which would be much faster than anything that is expected to come in the iPhone’s box.
It’s worth noting that while this cable will be rated for 150W charging, there is no suggestion that the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max will be capable of charging at that speed. Instead, it seems likely that the cable could be used to charge laptops like the 16-inch MacBook Pro and beyond.
The leaker says that this new cable is different from the Thunderbolt one that is already available, and it appears to be braided just like the supposed iPhone 15 cables that we’ve seen leaked over the last few days. It’s also worth noting that this cable is just 0.8m long, whereas the cable that we’ve seen leak lately is almost twice as long as that.
Exactly what’s going on here remains to be seen and we might have to wait for Apple to announce its new iPhones before we can be sure. That’s expected to happen on September 12 or September 13, so we won’t have to wait too much longer at least.
