Apple’s biggest iPad right now is the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, but that could be matched in the future with Apple reportedly working on a new, biggest iPad Air.
The current iPad Air is available in a single 10.9-inch size, but a new report claims that a 12.9-inch version is currently in development.
That’s according to DigiTimes which cites industry sources when it says that the 12.9-inch iPad Air will not feature a mini-LED display but will rather feature the same LCD technology that is currently used in the 10.9-inch model.
That will surely give Apple a way to save some money compared to the more expensive iPad Pro, all while offering the bigger display size that customers seem to want.
However, it isn’t yet clear whether this will affect the current 10.9-inch model. It’s possible that Apple will replace that version with the new, larger one. Or it could ship the two together as a two-sized lineup. However, that’s only currently something Apple does with the iPad Pro and it seems unlikely that Apple will do that here.
The timing of the 12.9-inch iPad Air’s release isn’t clear yet, either. But it’s possible it could launch relatively soon. We’re expecting the sixth-gen iPad Air within weeks, if not months with anew M2 chip likely to be the main addition.
That is, unless the display grows to almost 13 inches of course.
