As part of the company’s release and delivery strategy for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple has started issuing emails to a number of pre-order customers in the United States who could be affected by the visitation of Pop Francis. It has been well discussed on social media and mainstream news over the last week or so that Pope Francis is visiting Washington DC, New York and Philadephia as part of a historic visit. And now, Apple seems to have deemed it necessary to let certain consumers know that their iPhone 6s / 6s Plus pre-orders could potentially be delayed due to the visit in some areas.
A screenshot of the received email has been uploaded and shared on social media by Sam Biddle on Twitter. The content of the email essentially informs anyone receiving it that Apple and its logistics partners may experience an inability to deliver parcels in certain restricted areas on Friday due to the visitation of the Pope. The email cites potential “traffic restrictions” in and around certain parts of New York City, but also states that a Saturday delivery service will be in place if the planned Friday drop-off can’t take place as expected.
As you would expect, all of the major shipping companies, such as FedEx, UPS, and USPS, will be ceasing deliveries in certain areas around the parts of those places that the Pope will be visiting. It may simply be a visit of a religious dignitary to a lot of us, but it’s reasonable to expect that extremely stringent security protocols will be in place when a visitor like Pope Francis comes to town.
It’s difficult to immediately know if deliveries of pickups will be affected in just specific parts of New York and Philadelphia, but to make things a little clearer, here’s a list of affected zip codes where enhanced security protocols will be in place during the visit:
New York City: 10001, 10007, 10017, 10021, 10022, 10023, 10029
Philadelphia: 19102, 19103, 19104, 19106, 19107, 19109, 19123, 19130, 19146, 19147
Anyone expecting a delivery in New York City can expect disruption this coming Thursday and Friday where deliveries and package collections will be suspended. Those in Philadelphia will be affected on Friday and Saturday. For the rest of the country, it looks as though Apple and its delivery partners should get the pre-ordered iPhone 6s to you on time, as planned.
