Apple has been celebrating Star Wars Day — May 4th — by sharing a new Behind the Mac video that features Skywalker Sound, the company behind the audio for Star Wars and other movies.
The video, which runs for almost 15 minutes, shows how Macs are used to create some of the most iconic sounds in the industry.
According to the video, a large number of Macs are used to make things happen while iPhones, iPads, and even Apple TV devices are included in the full movie-making workflow.
With the power of approximately 130 Mac Pro racks, as well as 50 iMac, 50 MacBook Pro, and 50 Mac mini computers running Pro Tools as their main audio application, along with a fleet of iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV devices, Skywalker is advancing sound artistry and reshaping the industry.
Notably, there is no mention of any Apple Studio machines being used, but that might simply be a case of timing. The new Mac Studio hasn’t been available all that long and companies like Skywalker Sound are unlikely to refresh their devices all that often — especially if what they already have works to a standard that is sufficient to get work done.
You can read much more about Skywalker Sound, its Macs, and more in a lengthy Apple Newsroom post. You can also watch that almost 17-minute-long video to hear some of those sounds that are so familiar. You might be surprised how they’re made!
