Apple’s new M1-powered Macs are still new territory for most, and its not surprising that issues now and then will crop up as more consumers get their hands on one. Those with Ultrawide or Super-Ultrawide monitors have been having problems setting up native resolution lately, but thankfully Apple has taken notice.
The Mac-maker, in a new Support Document, has acknowledged the issue and says that a future macOS update will resolve this once and for all.
It’s not the best feeling having dished out a good chunk of your pocket for a machine that doesn’t support your UW display, especially if you bought the machine for productivity tasks. While a fix being on the way is assuring, we don’t know how soon that will be.
If you connect an ultrawide or super-ultrawide monitor to your Mac with Apple M1 chip, some resolutions supported by your display may not be available. Apple is aware of this issue and resolution is planned for a future macOS update.
However, there’s more here that Apple says, and it may not be the best way, but at least it gets you something. Apple wants you to use scaling for now.
To see the additional resolutions for your external display, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Displays, then press and hold the Option key while you click Scaled.
While Apple works on a macOS update, some users have suggested using the SwitchResX app for Mac to get things smoothened out.
M1 Macs have been quite the stars in the world of mobile performance up till now, and Apple is likely to not let a bug of this nature stain that stardom. For now, it’s a waiting game.
