The announcement of the iPad 2 might have been the big news to come out of today’s Apple event, but they also showed off three new apps – Photo Booth, iMovie and GarageBand – all for the iPad 2. Video demo in a official video after the break.
Photo Booth
Perhaps the least exciting of the three new apps, Photo Booth is obviously included with the new iPad 2 to show off the device’s new cameras. The usual effects are all included though we can’t help but wonder there is little use to be had out of the app once the initial ‘wow’ factor has worn off. We’re prepared to be proven wrong though!
iMovie
Much more interesting is the new iMovie. Similar to its iPhone counterpart, iMovie seeks to bring the power of the Mac app to the handheld world. Standout features include the precision editor, new themes and multi-track audio recording. The ability to send video over AirPlay as well as sharing in HD are also welcome.
iMovie will be priced at the usual $4.99 price-point and will be available on the iPad 2’s launch date – March 11th.
GarageBand
Bringing music editing to the iPad, GarageBand has a few tricks up its sleeve. 8-track recording and mixing, along with the ability to email your new AAC files stand out, while the way the iPad knows how hard you are pressing keys etc. is also impressive. According to Apple this is achieved by using the in-built motion-sensing hardware. Clever!
Like iMovie, GarageBand will be priced at $4.99 and will be available on the App Store from March 11th.
