Apple Awarding $5 iTunes Gift Cards To Apple Pay Users In US & UK Stores, Details Here

Apple is giving its Apple Pay service another push this week, with the company’s retail stores trying their hardest to get shoppers to pay for their items with Apple Pay rather than more traditional methods.

According to a report, Apple Stores in both the UK and United States are participating in the strategy that has employees asking customers if they would like to pay for their purchase by using Apple Pay. If the customer does not wish to do so because they do not yet have it set up, then Apple’s employee will walk them through the steps required to do so. The sweetener from the customer’s point of view? A crisp new $5 or £5 iTunes gift card for their time.

Interestingly, at least to us, customers will not be required to return the free gift card if they later return the item they bought at the time of receiving it. That’s a loophole we don’t foresee too many people bothering to exploit, but it’s there nevertheless.

Apple’s new attempt to push Apple Pay in the United States and UK comes after the service went live in its eighth country, with iPhone and iPad owners in France now able to pay for goods with just their fingerprint. That means that users in the United States, the UK, China, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Singapore, and France can now use Apple Pay, with both Spain and Hong Kong pencilled in to join the exclusive club very soon.

Once users have signed up to use Apple Pay, they will be able to pay for goods in stores and via App Store apps on iOS, while Apple Pay will soon be available for use on web sites on both the Mac and iPhone/iPad with the release of macOS and iOS 10, expected this September.
