Finally! After what feels like an eternity of speculation and conjecture, Cupertino-based Apple Inc. has officially introduced the AirTag accessory hardware. Once released, the AirTag hardware will expand the Find My ecosystem and allow owners to securely locate tagged items.
It feels like the world has been talking about AirTag for an extremely long time. Various Apple product launches have been and gone with no official sign of the AirTag hardware.
Now, it’s finally here with Apple describing AirTag as a “small and elegantly designed accessory that be be personalized with free engraving, and enables iPhone users to securely locate and keep track of their valuables using the Find My app.”
In essence, the announcement confirms that the AirTag hardware is exactly as described by multiple sources over the last 6 months. The small and elegant tags will be able to be attached to handbags, laptop bags, keys, and other items.
The hardware then taps into the “vast, global” Find My network in order to help owners locate a keep track of items. Location data is also private and anonymous thanks to built-in end-to-end encryption.

With its design, unparalleled finding experience, and built-in privacy and security features, AirTag will provide customers with another way to leverage the power of the Apple ecosystem and enhance the versatility of iPhone.
Each AirTag is small and extremely lightweight. They are manufactured from precision-etched polished stainless steel and come with an IP67 rating to protect against water and dust.
Each AirTag also has a built-in speaker that lets it emit a sound to assist with locating the attached item. You also benefit from the same “magical” setup experience as Apple’s AirPods.
Apple will start shipping AirTag hardware this coming Friday, April 30. Consumers will be able to buy one AirTag for $29.00 or invest in a multi-pack of four AirTags for $99.00, saving themselves $17.00 for purchasing a larger quantity.
