Apple and Hyundai are reportedly hoping to strike a deal that will see the latter build the Apple Car in the United States.
The pair have been spoken about a lot in recent days, with latter having confirmed that discussions are underway. That statement was later altered, but the cat was already out of the bag.
Now, according to a new report by Korea IT News via Reuters, Apple and Hyundai hope to be able to sign a deal as soon as March with production of the new autonomous cars to begin in 2024. Up to 100,000 vehicles are expected to be built within the first year while that capacity will increase to 400,000 per year eventually.
Further, Hyundai and Apple seem to want to build the new cars in the United States, with a Kia factory in Georgia thought to be the most likely destination for the Apple Car.
There is also a suggestion that the two companies could build a new factory altogether, although that doesn’t strike us as a cheap endeavor.
Recent reports by Bloomberg and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have suggested that any Apple Car could be up to seven years away, but this latest report suggests a test car could be up and running by next year.
