Apple has added a new Car Keys Tests app to the app store, although it’s currently unlisted and is only available to those who have the app’s link to hand.
The new app appears to be designed to allow carmakers to test their Apple Car Key integration, a feature that allows people to lock, unlock, and start their cars using their iPhone.
It’s something that was announced back in 2020 and until recently was only available on a handful of BMW vehicles.
Now, the app has been made available in the App Store as a way for carmakers to test their Car Key integration. That said, it is only available as a direct link for now, and is not available via search on the App Store or Apple’s account.
Apple’s App Store description of the app makes it clear that this isn’t an app designed for the public to use.
For use by MFi Licensees only. Use the Car Keys Tests app to test and validate connection, performance, and other key requirements for the certification process of the vehicles you develop that incorporate Apple digital car keys technology. For more information about Car Keys certification, visit the MFi Portal at mfi.apple.com.
The Car Keys Tests app is now available as a free download, not that you will be able to do much with it once you get it. Here’s hoping that this means that more carmakers will be adding support for Apple Car Keys sooner rather than later.
