The official iOS App Store has been open for business since July 2008, and in that time, it has passed a number of significant milestones including breaching the 100,000 available applications mark as well as dishing out billions of dollars to developers in the last four years. The popularity of the App Store has considered to grow as it gets older, with thousands of registered developers around the world submitting more and more free and commercial applications on a daily basis.
I know I can’t be the only person in the world who loves and salivates over statistics, so just what magical numbers can the App Store provide us with? The metrics information provided by 148Apps shows that the App Store currently has over 569,000 applications available for download which are pushed to the store by over 130,000 registered developers. This month alone has seen an average of 668 applications and games sent to Apple per day to undergo the review process. When you take into account the kinds of numbers we are talking about, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the App Store is fast approaching the 25 billionth download.
At the time of writing, the current total of apps served was sitting at 24,297, 751, 564 and rising rapidly, meaning it won’t be long until that milestone is reached. To celebrate the enormous download total, Apple are offering a $10,000 App Store gift card to the lucky person who manages to download the 25 billionth application. The total is an accumulation of worldwide application sales, with the competition reflecting that and being available to participants around the world with only a few minor terms and conditions to be met.
The $10,000 gift card giveaway is open to entrants who are thirteen years of age or older at the time of entry and are located in a participating country. Apple have limited the competition to twenty five entries per person per day and it applies to both free and paid application downloads so theoretically you could win the $10,000 prize without any actual purchase. For the sake of clarity, Apple have felt the need to make it clear that the competition will end as soon as the 25 billionth application is downloaded so any entries after that will be null and void.
If you are a regular app downloader, head on over to the entry site and make sure you fill in the necessary form, and, we wish you the best of luck.
