Last month OpenAI made the ChatGPT app available for the Mac, but limited it to only those who paid for the premium ChatGPT subscription.
However, the company has now rolled it out to everyone who wants it including those who don’t pay OpenAI a penny.
The app allows ChatGPT users to interact with GPT-4o within a proper OpenAI Mac app for the first time as well as voice conversations via the new Voice Mode when an updated version of the app is rolled out within the next few weeks.
You can now have voice conversations with ChatGPT directly from your computer, starting with Voice Mode that has been available in ChatGPT at launch, with GPT-4o’s new audio and video capabilities coming in the future. Whether you want to brainstorm a new idea for your company, prepare for an interview or have a topic you’d like to discuss, tap the headphone icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop app to start a voice conversation.
Another feature that users can look forward to is the ability to take and then upload screenshots right within the app, allowing ChatGPT to discuss that screenshot as required.
The ChatGPT app can now be downloaded for free and users simply need to sign in using their OpenAI account to get started. Chats will of course also be synced between devices as you might expect.
