You may remember the Anker Nebula Capsule, the company’s portable, pocket cinema. A cylindrical TV device with a built-in projector that could take video streaming services like Netflix and throw them onto any wall, the Nebula Capsule was an intriguing piece of kit and generally well received, but as is always the case, there was bound to be something better further down the line.
For this portable projector, it’s the Nebula Capsule II. There’s a pattern developing, here!
The world of potential the original Nebula Capsule offered has been expanded thanks to the fact the new device is built on Android TV with Google Assistant also thrown in. There’s support for HD, too, thanks to a new 720p output that should be great for giving users a better experience while on the go. The whole thing has a rechargeable battery, too, making it suitably portable.
Nebula Capsule’s sleek, black cylindrical body measures in at 5.9 inches high and can be easily transported in the included carrying sleeve. Capsule II has also gone through an internal upgrade and is now able to project a 720p image at 200 ANSI lumens. Capsule provides 3-hours of video playtime or 30-hours as a Bluetooth speaker on a single charge. Leveraging Anker’s Power Delivery technology, Capsule II can charge to full power in 2.5 hours via USB-C.
Right now, the new Nebula Capsule II is going through its own Kickstarter campaign here and is going a fine job of it, too. With a target of $50,000, the campaign is already at over $800,000 and climbing. It’s going so well that the early bird offers have gone, meaning you’ll need to spend $399 – $200 less than the projector’s retail price of $599 – to get in on the ground floor right now.
That seems like a reasonable price for what you’re going to get, and you can add a little should you want to get yourself a stand, case, and game controller, too.
