Android 6.0 Marshmallow Confirmed For Sony Xperia Devices [List]

Android fans out there will be waiting patiently to see just when, and if, the latest version of the world’s most popular mobile platform will be rolling out to their hardware. It’s always something of a lottery whenever Google announces a new version of Android, waiting to see exactly which devices will ultimately get support for the firmware – barring the Nexus lineup of course. If you’re an Xperia device owner then there’s some good news today, as Sony has announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow for 14 Xperia branded smartphones and tablets.

The announcement from within the Sony camp follows hot on the heels of Google flicking the switch on the rollout of Android Marshmallow to a number of Nexus devices via an over-the-air software update. Sony has mentioned via the official blog post that it has been “working hard” to bring the latest major version of Android to as many devices as possible, in as short amount of time as possible. The company also indicates that there’ll likely be an additional announcement soon regarding new features and improvements.

The list of supported Xperia devices is as follows:

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z3
  • Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2
  • Xperia Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia M5
  • Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Xperia C4

As always with major Android upgrades, the rollout of the firmware is phased and will vary depending on the market and operator of the device. In addition to the upcoming support for the aforementioned Sony Xperia devices, T-Mobile has also confirmed some good news for HTC and LG device owners. The mobile network has confirmed that the HTC One M8, HTC One M9, the LG G3, LG G4, and the LG G Stylo will all be getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Although the same phased rollout procedures apply so there’s no official date for when all these updates will happen.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow goodness isn’t just limited to the Nexus, Sony, LG and HTC devices either. We’ve previously discussed the relatively extensive list of Samsung devices that have been confirmed to benefit from everything that Android’s latest version brings. There is also announced support for a number of Motorola devices, such as the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition and the 2014 Moto MAXX.
