Sometimes Amazon does something that makes you check the date just to make sure that it is not actually April 1st.
Today is a prime example of that after the online retailer announced that it is launching Amazon Prime Wardrobe, and although it is currently in beta, buyers can sign up to be notified when it officially launches.
The new offering will allow them to choose new clothes and accessories and then have them delivered for free as part of their Prime membership, with free returns and payment only required for those items that they keep. The whole thing kicks off with Prime members choosing between 3 and 15 items of clothing or accessories from brands like Calvin Klein, Levi’s, Adidas, Theory, Timex, and Lacoste before having them to try on for free for up to seven days.
Following that they simply return what they do not want by either arranging a free pickup or by dropping the pre-paid box off at a local UPS facility. It is only at this time that the items are paid for. In fact, those who choose to keep three or four items from the box will get 10% off everything while those who elect to keep five or more will receive 20% off their entire order.
Clothes buying online has historically been an issue for people who are concerned about sizing in particular, and Amazon Prime Wardrobe removes that by allowing buyers to try clothing on in their own home for free.
With up to seven days to try things on, it could be argued that this new method of buying clothes is preferable to trawling around stores and malls.
Amazon will be hoping that such logic will see its Prime Wardrobe take off once it comes out of beta.
