Alympus Jailbreak Tweak Reimagines Multitasking On iOS

Every so often a jailbreak tweak pops up that embodies what can make the jailbreak scene so awesome. Amidst a sea of mediocre tweaks and apps, there is always one that stands out from the crowd. This week, that tweak is Alympus.

Co-created by developer Kyle Howells, and UI designer Surenix, Alympus is essentially a multitasking tweak that works to take the existing iOS multitasking framework and improve it. The way it does that is to reuse the existing card aesthetic that Apple uses for its multitasking view, but also by adding options and multiple zoom levels to it, creating something that not just looks nicer but also improves functionality.

Envoking Alympus is a case of double-pressing the Home button like the stock iOS multitasking view, though users can also use a swipe upward gesture should they so wish. Once either of those actions are performed, running apps will be shown as a grid of app previews, with the number of windows shown changeable via a simple pinch gesture. This will see the previews shrink, making room for more to be shown on-screen at a time. The tweak will remember your choice of zoom until the next time you change it too, so you shouldn’t need to be changing it every time you use the tweak.

Alongside the multitasking view, Alympus also has a music control screen and a page of quick toggles for turning things on and off such as a VPN, WiFi, or Bluetooth. This page also includes your most recent contacts – all in once place. There’s also an option to respring too, should you need to do such a thing quickly. Both the music controls and options are hidden to the side of the multitasking view, and are just a swipe away.

Alympus is without a doubt one of the nicer, more useful tweaks around and is well worth the $3.99 it costs to get hold of it. Alympus is available to download from Cydia’s BigBoss repository now, and we suggest you check it out.
