When Apple holds its September 12 event for the unveiling of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineups we can also expect there to be new AirPods as well. That’s according to a new report by one well-connected reporter.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are both expected to switch away from Lightning and to USB-C, something that will happen because the European Union will require all phones use a common charger from 2024.
But phones aren’t the only ones impacted and Apple’s earbuds will have to follow suit.
Now, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that’s exactly what will happen when Apple announces its new iPhones. Gurman says that APple will introduce new AirPods that use a USB-C charging port but he didn’t explain which AirPods he was speaking about.
To be clear, all of Apple’s AirPods will need to be updated including the standard AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max. It isn’t yet clear what Apple will do with its other accessories as well, with keyboards, mice, and trackpads also requiring a switch away from Lightning.
The September 12 event is also expected to include the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra, both of which already use USB-C charging cables that connect to the watches using a magnetic charging puck. All of the new hardware is likely to go on sale on September 22.
