AirPods Pro, AirPods 2 2C54 Firmware Update Released

Apple has today released new firmware updates for both AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro, although there has yet to be any word on exactly what the new releases bring to the table. It’s likely that stability fixes are the order of the day, however, with improved pairing times potentially included.

Both AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro have been updated to firmware version 2C54 from versions 2A364 and 2B588 respectively.

Unfortunately, forcing AirPods to update their firmware is almost impossible. Instead, the update will be installed automatically over-the-air while AirPods are connected to an iPhone or iPad. That said, if you put AirPods in their Charging Case and connect them to power while they are paired to an iPhone or iPad, that may be enough to kick the update into gear.

If you want to check what version of the firmware you are running, it’s a fairly simple process. With your AirPods paired to an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap “General” followed by “About.” Next, tap “AirPods” and check the firmware number. If it reads 2C54 you’re fully updated.

We’ll keep our ears to the ground and let you know if we get wind of exactly what this update has changed. But we wouldn’t expect any fancy new features this time around, unfortunately.
