Imagine talking to someone who speaks a different language and instantly understanding them through your AirPods.
That’s exactly what Apple is working on, according to Bloomberg. This new translation feature is expected to roll out with iOS 19 and an AirPods software update later this year.
The idea is simple but powerful. If you’re wearing AirPods and speaking English, and the other person is speaking Spanish, your iPhone will handle the translation. It will listen, convert the speech, and play the translated version directly into your AirPods.
Replies will go through the same process, making conversations smoother. While Apple’s Translate app already does this, integrating it with AirPods will make everything feel more natural and seamless.
Apple is also planning to improve the Translate app in iOS 19, though details on those upgrades are still under wraps. The big question is whether this translation feature will be exclusive to the upcoming AirPods Pro 3 or if existing models will get it too.
Apple has been consistently updating AirPods with new features alongside iOS updates. For example, iOS 18 introduced hearing health tools that let AirPods detect potential hearing issues and even function as a hearing aid.
Given this trend, it’s possible that Apple will bring real-time translation to current AirPods models, making them even more useful for travelers and multilingual conversations.
