Apple’s AirPods are arguably the company’s best product to come out of the last few years, and after initially being derided, they have become much-loved accessories for so many people, it’s hard to believe not everyone with an iPhone already owned some.
Apple’s been rumored to have a refreshed AirPods 2 on the horizon for a few months, and according to Digitimes, we may not have to wait too much longer for the big unveiling. This echoes predictions made by analyst Ming Chi Kuo back in December, which had a refreshed AirPods releasing in the first half of 2019 and another set with an all-new design slated for 2020.
A new Digitimes report claimed that Apple will release its AirPods 2 at some point in the next few months, with a release before the second half of the year apparently in the cards. The report also claims that Apple is adding new health features to the refreshed earbuds, and that’s something that analysts have made noises about before. Apple is heavily focused on health via its Apple Watch wearable, so the thought of AirPods gaining health features isn’t one that strikes us as unlikely.
It’s hoped that this release will also bring with it the wireless charging case that has been hotly anticipated since the iPhone X announcement event that also saw the initial outing of AirPower. Neither the charging mat nor the AirPods wireless charging case have made their way to market since then, although the AirPods case does seem more likely to be announced than the ill-fated charging solution.
If Apple does indeed launch refreshed AirPods, we suspect there will be a healthy number of people who won’t be able to get their credit cards out quick enough, including me!
